This review is from: RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum (DVD-ROM) This is an amazing game and I had played it for years on a windows machine with no problems and loved everything about the game. But when you first install the MAC game it does have some issues. I have an imac with a 2.8 GHz Intel processor with 4 GB ram and an ATI HD video card and still had major issues with the game running slow and basically freezing for several minutes before it would start to work again. If you read the other Amazon reviews for the “vanilla” RCT3 for MAC you will learn about the same very frustrating performance issues. The same is true with this version as well. Aspyr was absolutely no help at all and gave the most worthless advise in a feeble attempt to fix the performance issues. They had no clue what they were doing. The good news is that there is an extremely simple fix that makes the game run with no slow downs and with no problems at all. GO TO THE TOOLS ICON (IT LOOKS LIKE A WRENCH) AND CLICK ON IT. YOU WILL THEN SEE SEVERAL ICONS IN THE UPPER RIGHT HAND CORNER OF THE BOX THAT POPS UP. CLICK ON THE EYE. NEXT SELECT THE CUSTOM OPTION THERE SHOULD BE A BOX WHERE YOU CAN TURN OFF SHADOWS!!!!! ONCE YOU TURN SHADOWS OFF, EVERYTHING IS MAGICALLY FIXED AND THE GAME RUNS LIKE A DREAM. Of course, this version brings the expansions to Mac users. I’m glad I bought it! I love the expansions, plus I can download new rides from the internet. I’m still amazed how well the graphics look in this game. Example: I’m riding a cart which is inside a building with windows. Looking out the windows, I can see people walking by, other rides spinning, etc. That’s some amazing programming. The game ran a little sluggish at first, so I took the advice of other reviewers and turned off shadows. Now the game runs as smooth as silk. I don’t miss the shadows; I don’t notice anything different other than the boost in performance. This is one of those addictive games–the hours to slip by before you know it. If you have not played this game, I highly recommend it! To me it was worth every penny. Having played the Roller Coaster Tycoon series throughout the years, I realized that I wouldn’t be able to play it anymore because I had a Mac now… until I stumbled across this product. I read some of the reviews and noticed most users complaining of freezing and other stuff, so was reluctant to buy it seeing that it was . After skimming through and finding several reviewers stating that they turned off the “shadows” effect and the problems ceased, I decided to purchase the game. Since receiving it, I have had no problems whatsoever with the product. I immediately turned off the shadows and everything has worked perfectly.
