This review is from: Sniper: Ghost Warrior (Video Game)

Sniper: Ghost Warrior falls into the already saturated first person shooter market. The publisher City Interactive attempts to change the feel of this FPS and bring appeal to sniper enthusiast. This game is not a AAA title, so do not review it as one. The game is similar to past FPS shooters on classic consoles then to present consoles.

Single player:

Sniper is a 4 act game, each act takes about 1.5 to 2.5 hours to compete, depends on your difficulty level and attention to detail. There are several secrets hidden on each act, so this adds to a small amount of replay value. The game allows a player to choose from several difficulty settings, which does not make the AI any smarter or better, rather, it helps the Sniper (player) line shots up accordingly and lets the player decided when its time to try the next difficulty level. The AI is not very intelligent, most of the time they wont react to a bot that has been shot in the head, and is standing 5 feet from them. However, it helps the player run around the board a little better. *remember, real snipers wait hours or even days to take a single shot or no shot at all* In addition, you switch between a gunner and sniper through the game several times, the gunner tends to be a little harder because you will quickly lose health and their is very few ways to regain it. The health bar will always rise back to 30 out of 100, and most of the time you are given 5 health packets to replenish yourself, so use them wisely. The game also has a silence hand gun and grenades, they are used sparingly when I played, but can be useful depending your tactics.

Multi-player:

The multi-player part of the game has several game modes, Team Death-match, Death-match, and VIP. (there might be others but I didn’t see them) These games modes are straight forward, you can pick between 4 sniper rifles and you must eliminate as many players as you can. The sniper rifles (packages) each come with different perks, more health and less speed, more speed and less health. In addition, I had noticed some of the guns are not as powerful, so you need to compensate for bullet drop in multi-player, but you can get off more rounds quickly. The boards were nicely made, places to hide and many times you can find a place above the map to snipe down from. There have been several times where I was looking at a player through my scope, but I did not see him until he had shot his sniper rifle, the camouflage was done nicely and allows players to hide. The maps are nice because it really pushes sniping over firefights, the middle of the maps are usually wide open, if you dare cross them you will most likely be taken out by a sniper. Lastly, there is radar in the game, which cannot be taken off. However, its not the radar from halo, it does not give you any indication of how close they are, only the direction they are in. The further out they are the wider the location becomes, its hard to find players at most times, but its all about position and patients.

Bullet Physics:

Yes, this is the most realistic shooter on a gaming console, excluding the PC ( a quick google search will show you an old school classic I used to play). The player must take into consideration Bullet time + moving object + wind + heart rate. The wind may push it left or right, the travel time will push it down, the moving object must be led and your heart rate determines how steady your holding the gun. It takes time to line up a shot from 400 to 500 yards deep. But its worth it when you hit the guy square in the head while he is running for cover.

Overall for the low introductory price of dollars the game was well made, I enjoyed it the single player and will continue to play the multi-player.

There are two weaknesses, 1 no co-op mode, games these days must come standard with co-op, its a lot of fun to play with other gamers. 2. In the campaign its rather annoying when the enemy spots you and you run away, but they continue to know where you are, as soon as you see them they will see you every time. Even if you flank their position set up a distraction, the enemy that spotted you once will spot you every time. That needs to be fixed, I should not be shot from across the board by enemy that spotted me 20 minutes ago.

This game has alot of flaws not worth full price, July 1, 2010

This review is from: Sniper: Ghost Warrior (Video Game)

First of all i have been waiting for a better sniper game to come out ever since sniper elite was out. I miss the old sniper elite. thinking this game was going to blow the old game out the water. I WAS WRONG. as far as shooting the sniper rifle watching your bullet reach your target then getting that head shot nothing feels better. I do like how much effort has to go into shooting your sniper rifle. But I noticed during the game that if you attack any of the op4 and miss or are almost seen, just like the other review they will always find you and no matter what you do or where you go they will find you. sounds cool right? NOT FOR THIS GUY.its almost as if its a real world thing right? wrong. If you watch the op4 trying to find and kill you they will be looking and shooting in a whole different direction. and yet they still manage to hit you. Or you can be 400 meters away and they are behind a wall or your behind something only your rifle exposed and they will still be able to hit you. yet you cant snipe them since they are behind something. If they intended for this game to be realistic, You can tell not alot of thought went into making this game. the terrain sucks and the graphics are not the best. Some scenes you think you found who is shooting at you and really its just the terrain flashing. I find myself always getting trapped on some off the wall places. In this game you are limited to certain areas. you cant really jump over anything Let me put it this way if its more than 1 ft tall you have a 30% chance that you can actually jump or go over it. most of the time you cant. You can get in the water and swim in the game but it is hard to get out. it has to be a flat dry area with no rocks at all. Not cool. oh yeah and your enemy will spot you from miles away. Not very realistic to me. Im not very pleased with the game in whole but i do love trying to snipe people from as far as possible. Or multiple people at the same time. If you just want a slow paced game you will prob like this you really have to take your time but trust me you will try to be patient and prob get angry just like i did when you see all the BS that comes with the game and then write a review. I really do think the game could have been worked on a lil more before being released. Well hope you find this worth reading.

Not as bad as I initially thought…, September 1, 2010
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Sniper: Ghost Warrior (Video Game)

I was reluctant to buy this game in base to the reviews I have seen in general. But since I enjoy sniping in different games (CoD MW2 by instance), I decided to give it a shoot :) .

My first impression was the details of the graphics, comparing with CoD MW2 this game is not as realistic but in my opinion it has a decent high definition graphics engine that permits the immersion of the gamer, so not a big deal for me. During one of the first campaign Acts within an Oil Rig I used an M4A1, even it has the quick aim feature encountered in CoD MW2 is not as precise (more recoil, as seen in CoD Black Ops released videos), so I experienced a sense of scattered shooting, probably more realistic (never used one in real life), just different not bad at all.

I enjoy the sniping scenarios, and what it requires: stealth, compensation, wind velocity, sneaking, etc. This game has it all, during campaign, in the rifle’s reticle appears the distance and a tiny red dot for compensation effects when aiming at a target, at first I had a basic clue how to compensate but the more I played the easiest became for me understand the ballistic principles (similar to the ones encountered in the sniping mission with the Cap Mc Millan of CoD MW when with a Barret .50 one has to shoot Zakharev in Chernobyl). This important BEFORE going to Multiplayer as the red tiny dot is not present there, you have to compensate by yourself. Believe me, is really difficult spot decent snipers during Multiplayer, and there is no kill-cam, which, in my opinion adds reality to the game experience and I love it.

Of course sniping is all about stealth techniques so the Multiplayer is a HUNTING in that sense the amount of kills are much less than the ones obtained in CoD MW2, in that sense I believe this is more a simulator than a game, cool for me. In general I like this game, since I have not experienced any flaw with it in my Xbox 360 console I recommend it for MATURE audiences.
