The Deepest Feature Set of Any FIFA Game Yet

FIFA 13 captures all the drama and unpredictability of real-world soccer, and is driven by five game-changing innovations which revolutionize artificial intelligence, dribbling, ball control and physical play. It is the largest and deepest feature set in the history of the franchise. These innovations create a true battle for possession across the entire pitch, deliver freedom and creativity in attack, and capture all the drama and unpredictability of the real-world game.

Key Game Features

  • Attacking Intelligence – Players have the ability to analyze space, work harder and smarter to break down the defense, and think two plays ahead. Plus, players make runs that pull defenders out of position and open passing channels for teammates.
  • Complete Dribbling – Face your opponent and use precise dribble touches combined with true 360-degree mobility with the ball. Be more creative and dangerous in 1v1 opportunities.
  • 1st Touch Control – A new system transforms the way players control the ball, eliminating near-perfect touch for every player, and creating more opportunities for defenders to capitalize on errant balls and poor touches to win back possession.
  • EA Sports Football Club – Join the club and experience soccer’s social network. Earn rewards, level up, enjoy live challenges, and connect with friends. Everything within FIFA 13, and against friends, is measured in a meaningful way. Fans can earn rewards to unlock items from the new Football Club Catalog, and build their status as they climb 100 levels. Real-world storylines drive Football Club through regular challenges so that FIFA 13 will look, feel and play like the real-world season. Support your club and compete against rivals in every area of the game, lifting your club higher in the league tables or helping them avoid relegation. Plus, the new EA Sports Football Club App for the iPhone enables fans to access to their EA Sports Football Club identity and friends, manage their FIFA Ultimate Team, search the live auctions and bid to win new players.
  • Better with Kinect (Xbox 360 game version)FIFA 13 with Kinect enables you to use voice commands to manage your club’s lineup and tactics without pausing the game, shout directions on the pitch in Be A Pro, and forces you to temper the way you talk to officials.
    • Voice Commands – Administer your squad the way real-world managers organize their clubs during a match. Use voice commands to instantly activate tactics, change formations, or initiate substitutions, and enjoy the strategic advantage of managing your club without pausing the game.
    • Pitch Commands – Think, react and play like a professional soccer player utilizing voice commands on the pitch in Be A Pro mode. Shout for a pass, send a teammate on a run or call for a shot the way real footballers communicate on the pitch.
    • Referee Feedback – Referees and linesmen are influenced by what they hear. Coarse language directed towards an official may be mentioned by commentators or influence a referee’s strictness and decision-making around fouls and bookings, the same way it does in real life. Plus, storylines will develop in Career Mode when players and managers let their emotions get the better of them.
  • Multiplayer Support – Enjoy multiplayer action with friends and family both locally, and online.

Deciding whether to buy or wait?, September 25, 2012

Let me first off say that I’m a mindless drone when it comes to Fifa and I’ll buy each new rendition on an annual basis. With that said, I also hate to wait for things so I went ahead and got the early access to Fifa 13 last Friday. I’ll quickly tell you what’s different between Fifa 12 and Fifa 13; whether you should throw your money at EA or simply wait until Black Friday or later.

Attacking Intelligence – Translation = Players with higher ratings will relentless run towards the goal without you pushing LB/pass. They’ll usually draw a defender who has marked them and you’ll be able to make more plays.

Complete Dribbling – Translation = You get to dribble in a 360 degree manner and exit in which ever direction you choose. Admittedly I’m not the most amazing player but to those who are talented at Fifa games you will surely be able to make use of this.

1st Touch Control – Translation = Players lose control of the ball when receiving passes and holding down RT. To avoid losing the ball just let go of the RT and receive the pass before sprinting again. This was a very nice example of addition by subtraction. No matter the difficulty, AI will occasionally lose control of the ball and allow you to poach it away. I really enjoyed this “new” feature because it did make games more interesting and fun to play.

EA Sports Football Club – Translation = Use the EA Points you collect by doing in-game tasks and skills games to “buy” virtual items. These virtual items range from boots (only about 12 available), “retro” kits (only about 8 available), balls (only about 8), and other in-game “bonuses”. These in-game bonuses range from things like increased coins per FUT games, “financial takeovers” where your club in manager mode is bought and you get a large sum of money to spend, etc. The `selection was awfully disappointing and I’m hoping they add throughout the year.

New Teams = Basically all of the same leagues and clubs from last year with the exception that they added the Saudi league.
New Stadium = They added White Hart Lane and King Fahd Stadium but lost Nou Camp

International Manager = This is built into the manager mode where your performance at your club will attract offers from many National teams. You would then be manager of a club and an international team simultaneously. As the IT manager you get to select your 25 man team from the entire pool of international players and then play all the friendlies, qualifies, and tournament matches.

Manager Mode= They added in fake World Cup, Euros, and other tournaments. Also you can now play their fake Champions/Europa league in the first season rather than wait until the second.

Transfers = The transfers system is given a face lift. The transfer screen is now a note book where you are given new options when buying and selling players. When attempting to buy a player, you may “enquire” about them from their clubs as to whether they would sell the player and also how much you would have to offer them. You’re also allowed to include players when trying to buy.
When selling/buying a player, you are told a range of how much the player is worth or how much you should offer depending on the player’s form. I read that they tried to cut back on the ridiculous transfers, especially in the first transfer window of each season… THEY DIDN’T. There is still massive movement between big time players; for example, Higuain to Inter, Ozil to Chelsea, Prince-Boateng to Man City. Every transfer window afterwards continues the trend.

Match day = A nice addition. If you’re not into playing season mode or ultimate team.. then whenever you play a match day game.. commentary and players ratings will be affected by their real life counterparts. I always hated hearing the same commentary for a year and I think that with this new addition it will lessen the game from getting stale.

Animations = They added a few new player celebrations which I didn’t really care for but they did include more realistic player celebrations, albeit, only between two players where they will embrace like they did in real life.

Impact Engine = This was a great addition to Fifa 12 and in this year’s rendition they improved the physics and removed the comical flopping.

Skills Games = They added 8 “mini games” with a variety of objectives ranging from chip shots, penalty shots, passing, dribbling, etc.

Layout/presentation = They changed the presentation this year but I could not have cared less. The presentation now includes a soccer ball in the background that opens and closes whenever you select things; also when you start games the opening presentations include the clubs badges on these soccer balls that open and close, etc. You have to see for yourself.

Conclusion: I think that EA was especially conservative this year. They opted to “perfect” (or…

WAY too many bugs right now . . . delay buying until price drops, September 28, 2012

This review is from: FIFA Soccer 13 (Video Game)

I am updating this review on December 5th . . . just to let you know that every issue I experienced and described in September is still occurring regularly (as well as many additional issues that have popped up since the release). Don’t take my word for it just go to the EA Fifa Twitter account and you will hear it from the company themselves. Or check our their Facebook page and look at all the angry comments. As of Today the Ultimate Team site has been unavailable for 3 days . . . not sporadically . . . 72 consecutive hours. Most people have jumped back to FIFA 11 as a result, where oddly the UT servres still work perfectly. Anyway, wait til it drops to and then it may be worth the money. Until then here is my original and still 100% accurate review from September.

…..

I’ve played FIFA since 09, and it’s always had it’s share of bugs. The bugs at the start this year though are debilitating. I was on 3 days early with my season pass and the EA servers were only available for about 70% of those 3 days as they continually made bug fixes.

I generally play Ultimate Team and if this is your primary game play, I would definitely recommend waiting another month for the game price to fall and the MANY bugs to get fixed. Plus player prices should be down about 20% once you do get on. Here are a few bugs I can identify off the top of my head, some of these are MAJOR, and if they were an online retailer would put them out of business!

1) Players won through auction (not BINNED) disappeared from Watchlist and were never seen from again. No coins no players. This issue occurred for 2 straight days and affected everyone. Literally everyone who won auctions lost their cards and coins . . . close to a million transactions. EA’s resolution? “It’s PROBABLY no longer broken, but any coins or players you already lost . . . sorry your SOL.” Still sporadically occurring, so bidding on players is basically fingers crossed it still works and I don’t just throw away my coins! Not exactly encouraging when your bidding 75% of your coins to try to buy a player. Imagine EBAY where you win a 0 jersey at auction but you don’t get the shirt AND your credit card is still charged.

2) Want to search for a player you want? Yeah good luck with that! 3/4 of all searches result in the following message . . . verbatim “Oops we couldn’t complete your search, please try again” Oops you can’t search? Imagine not being able to search for a specific product on Amazon and having to page through pages upon pages of irrelevant material before you get to that CD you want. Useless.

3) Like the ability to use your trade pile don’t you . . . to you know, like sell stuff? Those 30 spots are extremely valuable . . . until you realize that once your auction ends you can’t put your player back up and that spot is now locked. Put up 30 guys and can’t remove them it pretty much becomes a gallery of the “Ghosts of failed trades past” so better hope you don’t get a dup of a good player because you’ll be selling him for 600 coins instead of being able to put him up for auction.

I could go on, but it’s ridiculous. If you don’t heed my advice and do buy now I have one legitimate suggestion. Make sure you sign up for the EA Fifa Twitter account because they will give you about 15 minutes advanced warning that the system will be coming down for the next 3 hours for maintenance so you don’t start a game and get cut off before completion. Why not just disable the ability to start a match 20 minutes before hand so people don’t have to replay the same Season game (5 times), lose contracts and get erroneously dinged for a DNF? . . . I don’t know but clearly the EA Developers don’t care and that is the biggest fail of all. If you do buy, you’ll probably get a lot of fresh air killing the 50% of the day the system will be down for maintenance. Thanks EA!

Quite good, November 17, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: FIFA Soccer 13 (Video Game)

Seems to be more realistic than any of it’s previous incarnations, which is what I find to be the most valuable trait in a sports video game (realism). Noticeablely different in its pacing (slower), and the tweaked physics requires more skill in passing and control on the ball. Not much wrong with it.
