This review is from: Nyko Charge Base for 3DS (Accessory) There were a lot of reviews saying that the charge stand itself doesn’t work, and while I experienced a lot of the same problems described by others, they all seemed to have given up on it entirely. Yes, the battery works, holds about double the charge, and doesn’t feel too bad to hold. It also adds quite a bit of weight to the system. This review will focus on the charge base so many people seem to have issues with, and hopefully make your decision to purchase this a bit more informed. When I got the thing, after charging it with the direct AC adapter, I tested out the cradle seeing as so many people claim theirs doesn’t work. When I set my 3DS in there and the orange ‘charge’ light on the 3DS didn’t come on, I assumed mine was broken too. I scoured the googles for information on a possible fix, and the only interesting thing I found was that one person had contacted Nyko, who told him that it was acting normally. The light’s not supposed to come on. I was about to contact Nyko myself, but then thought I’d test it out and see if I can get it working first. I ran a game (with the 3D all the way up) and left the wireless on at full brightness overnight to kill the new power pack. Once it was dead, I set it in the cradle, and saw that the orange light on the 3ds did not come on. I left it in there (with the cradle’s power button turned on) and turned the 3DS on, but it promptly died. So, to test it out, I left it in the cradle (dead) while I was at work. When I came home, the power pack had completely charged. The cradle’s light was still orange until i turned the cradle off and on again, and then it turned green, to indicate that it was fully charged. As it turns out, the stand has a circuit board inside it that regulates power to the power pack, and since it’s a high capacity battery, the charging light on the 3DS won’t come on, but as long as the cradle’s power is on, it WILL charge. Though it is rather slow. It charges independently from the 3DS. So, if you buy this kit, just keep in mind that it DOES work, even if the light on the 3DS doesn’t come on. Just follow the directions in the kit on using it for the first time, and remember what I’ve said. If you still think yours is broken, I suggest you do a test like I did: Drain the battery, set it in the cradle, turn the cradle on, and check it in several hours. They’re not defective, and I rather like using the cradle (and the one that came with the 3DS), so to me, it was worth the extra over the individual power pack. Overall, the battery does work as advertised and improves the battery life of the 3ds by leaps and bounds and the charger is relatively simple affair to use. The problem is that the charge base itself seems to have longevity issues. After owning and using the charger for about a month and a half the charge base began to malfunction and not properly light up. I then found out with some experimentation that the battery was also not charging anymore and that I had to plug the system in to recharge the battery. Hopefully, this specific charge base was part of a bad batch and is not representative of the majority of the charge bases. |
