In Sesame Street: Cookie’s Counting Carnival, kids join Cookie Monster and Big Bird at a fun-filled carnival through gameplay steeped in math skills that include number identification, counting, shapes and pattern recognition. Lo and behold a few days ago my husband came home with this one. My 2-1/2 year old cannot play some of the games by himself as he has problems getting the controller to respond properly and some of the games seem a bit advanced for him right now. However, we play as a family…letting him use the controller for the games he can play and then helping him by an adult using the controller and he points at the correct answer on the screen. It’s a pretty fun time. I’m guessing he’ll master the controller soon and will be able to play on his own. We also use the Cookie Monster cover on the controller and have had no issues….as you only use the 2 button and this cover doesn’t cover that button. All that said, we absolutely love playing this game together. Lots of laughter and he’s learning his numbers! She loves playing it and has so much fun! There are some games that are over her head and she needs help figuring out the answers, but we are play as a family! They love playing on the computer and my 2 year old plays a Sesame Street one pretty well by herself so I thought this would be great for her and my preschooler (age 4). It is grossly overpriced for the games on there – you are paying for the Sesame Street name. You don’t even get to personalize it with their name. They get assigned a shape & number as their profile. Lame. The remote is unresponsive which is frustrating because she will put it on the right answer (after much work!) and then it suddenly moves. It is completely boring for my 4 year because she knows her shapes, colors and numbers so it basically has become a game just for my 2 year old. It is very very basic – a good thing for your very young player, but I would have expected that you can select levels of learning. I am pretty disappointed that my 4 year old can’t be challenged by this game. It’s also frustrating if you have a very independent child (like I do!) who wants to do the remote all by themselves and it won’t respond. The game has 2 sections Carnival and Games. In Games you can just select which games from the Carnival you want to play instead of going through the whole carnival….my daughter likes certain pattern games and it only gives you 3 patterns before returning to the menu. A trivial complaint but when you have problems with the remote it becomes annoying to maneuver back to where you were because your child still wants to play that same game. Overall a disappointment, but I guess nice to have a game for just our youngest to play since there are very few things that are just hers. Would have liked to pay a lot less for it… |
